lyrics

Jeannie and Janey were childhood friends
going through their formative years
always together through the thick and the thin
sharing all the laughter and tears
Johnny was always hanging around
the proverbial boy next door
Jeannie and Janey didn’t care about boys
Johnny thought that girls were a bore
Time goes by, growing up faster than grass
my oh my, innocence just doesn’t last

Jeannie was the valedictorian girl
Janey the queen of the prom
Johnny played guitar in a rock and roll band
living his life in a song
Johnny thought Janey was out of this world
Jeannie thought Johnny was dumb
Janey told Jeannie her heart was on fire
Jeannie told Janey to run
Time goes by, flying like a bird on the wing
By and by, Johnny gave Janey a ring

Janey & Johnny were married that Spring
Li’l Jimmy came late in the fall
Johnny enlisted to find a career
then he went off to the war
meanwhile Jeannie was a’working so hard
doin’ just fine on her own
Janey and Jimmy were struggling so
Jeannie gave Janey a loan
(INST BREAK)
why oh why, Johnny won’t be coming back home
cry cry cry, Janey couldn’t face it alone

Jeannie and Janey were married last june
Li’l Jimmy thought the wedding was fun
he never really got to know his Dad
and two Moms are better than one
